The collection of Armenian sculpture in the NGA includes the works of eminent Armenian artists of XIX-XX centuries such as the founder of realistic portrait A.Ter-Marukyan, great master of genre sculpture M.Mikaelyan, author of monumental-decorative and animalistic works H.Gurjyan (France) whose eourve brought world-wide recognition to Armenian sculpture.
This sphere of fine arts was promoted by the soviet Armenian masterrs, Among-them E.Kotchar, G.Kepinov, A.Urartu, S.Stepanian, S.Taryan, A.Saryan ets, whose monumental works are installed in different cities of Armenia and the best part is displayed in the Gallery Particular enthusiasm felt in the works of sculptors of post War period. It was a time when N.Nikoghosyan, Gh.Chubaryan, G.Badalyan,
S.Baghdasaryan, A.Harutyunyan, Kh.Iskandaryan came onto stage. Continuing the traditional and achievements of the elder generation, they create monumental works, compositions inputting the spirit of the time in them.
In 1960-1970-ies the art of sculpture gains special significance when side by side with the above mentioned mastes start to create G.Mehrabyan, A.,Hovsepyan, A.Chakmakchyan, E.Ghojabashyan, L.Tokmakohyan, B.Petrosyan, A.Shiraz and others. The works of this generation are characterized by asperation for reflection of the National traditional and by the diversity and boldness of interpretation of the images, depicted.
The representation of the Armenian sculpture is being concluded by renewad and gifted sculptors of 1980-1990-ies such as S.Ghazaryan, G.Baghdasaryan, A.Baghdasaryan.
The works of diaspora Armenian sculptors D.Kamsarakan, Kh. Der-Harutyan (USA), N.Zaryan (Italy) donated to the Gallery by the artists have their deserved places in the exposition of our Gallery.
