Armenian Impressionism. From Moscow to Paris.

 As mentioned by the organizers, Armenia is famous for its majestic mountains, magnificent medieval temples, fine traditional cuisine, and beautiful canvases of Arshile Gorky and movie pictures of Sergey Parajanov.
The Museum of Russian Impressionism represents Armenian artists who have mastered the best traditions of French Impressionism. Their artworks by their characteristic are highly competitive with those by Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas and August Renoir.
As a separate phenomenon Armenian impressionism developed at the end of XIX and the beginning of XX centuries. France, the cradle of the new civilization and enlightening ideas played a fundamental role in Armenian cultural life. Russian painting school as well had a certain significance for the development of Armenian fine arts, for many Armenian artists studied in Moscow and St. Petersburg at distinguished Russian masters of the time (Vasily Polenov, Konstantin Korovin and Valentin Serov).
The exhibition “Armenian Impressionism” represents fifty-four works by nineteen artists. The works are disposed by the National Gallery of Armenia, the Russian Art Museum of Yerevan and by private collectors.
Viewers can get acquainted with the works by world renowned artists Vardges Soureniants, Martiros Sarian, the great master of Armenian impressionism Yeghishe Tadevossian as well as Vahram Gaifejian, Sedrak Arakelian and others.
A picturesque catalogue will be published on this occasion. Besides the articles on Armenian impressionism as an artistic phenomenon, it will include biographical essays of the presented artists and interesting facts about their works.
Lectures, thematic disputes, music evenings and excursions will also take place.
The exhibition will be open until June 4, 2017.
