Abbas Kiarostami: Destination unknown
Curator of the exhibition:
Vigen Galstyan
Titled Destination Unknown, the exhibition features 28 black-and-white landscapes taken by Kiarostami over many years while scouting film locations. Free from titles and dates, these photographs depict different roads whose surrounding natural environments and the human traces within them transform into metaphorical symbols. As in his films, Kiarostami emphasises the importance of the journey as a vital means of understanding the conflicted relationship between life’s transience and nature’s infinity.
The exhibition is organized with the support of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival. Kiarostami personally donated this collection to the festival in 2004, during the first retrospective of his films in Armenia.
