What would change if, instead of looking at a river, we tried to listen to it?
Maud van den Beuken’s artistic research focuses on rivers, their materiality, and time. The artist walks along rivers, studies riverbeds, works with sediment, and follows the slow processes through which rivers shape and transform their surroundings.
The exhibition features four major rivers, including Araks River, an important part of the local context and of the artist’s research.
Here, the river appears not simply as part of the landscape, but as a material, spatial, and sonic presence.
“When Rivers Speak” invites us to slow down our way of looking and reconsider our relationship with the river, paying attention to what usually remains unseen.
The sound installation has been made in collaboration with ceramic artist Sose Stepanyan and composer Sophia Bardoutsou.
The exhibition opens the artistic fabric of ARÉ FEST-2026/GAIA TERRAIN, opening up another distinctive space within the festival’s diverse constellation of voices and encounters.
Organised by: ARé Cultural Foundation
The exhibition was realiսed with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Armenia and the Dutch Ministry of Culture.
