Grigor Aghasyan: Sounding Pictures
Curator of the exhibition:
Marina Hakobyan
The exhibition, which showcases nearly six decades of Aghasyan’s creative journey, presents the legacy of a unique artist-cronicler, painter, graphic artist, and master etcher of Old Yerevan – an artist deeply in love with life and gifted with subtle humor and exceptional kindness. Visitors will have the opportunity to travel through the cities of Italy and France, England and Spain, Estonia and Georgia, the charming towns and villages of Armenia and the old courtyards, vibrant markets, squares, and streets of Yerevan. They will also be able to explore the artist’s beloved studio through an immersive virtual-reality experience.
Using the interactive tools of the VR environment, visitors can independently turn the wheel of the etching press, paint with the artist’s brushes, switch on his favorite tape recorder, and explore the sketches and drawings laid out on the table.
Among the exhibition’s most significant “exhibits” is Aghasyan’s ornate early 1900-s table – which still contains the artist’s personal belongings – symbolizing generational continuity and the preservation of memory, along with his couch and easel.
Some of the nearly 100 works featured in the exhibition were “rediscovered” from long-concealed storage spaces and are being presented to the public for the first time.
