Sisian Art Gallery

Sisian Art Gallery, branch of the NGA, has been functioning since 1996. The collection includes works of celebrated Armenian painters that represent the period from the end of the 19th century till present day. Thanks to these works visitors have an opportunity to get to know the history of Armenian painting, the diversity of themes, and the artistic means of expression.

The unique features of the national fine arts find their full expression in the traditional genres of landscape, thematic painting, portrait, still life painting, which expose the overall picture of the historical past, present life and daily routine of the people.

Here the landscape genre is presented by the works of Yeghishe Tadevosyan, Panos Terlemezian, Rafayel Chichmanian, Sedrak Arakelian, Gabriel Gurjian, Khachatur Yesayan, Zakar Khachatryan and others.

The portraits of painters representing different time periods and having different creative preferences are notable for their precise and acute psychological description and discovery of significant features of the human nature. The heroes are the distinguished people of our historic past and culture, as well as people of present time with various thoughts and feelings.

The collection also contains portraits by Henrik Siravyan, Rafael Atoyan, Ashot Melkonyan. Especially noteworthy is the portrait of the famous writer Hamo Sahyan by Paravon Mirzoyan.

Expressive works of Edward Isabekian, bright paintings of Mkrtich Karamyan, as well as decorative works of Ruben Shahverdyan are especially noteworthy.

Still life paintings have an important place in the museum exposition. Martiros Sarian and his successors Mher Abeghian, Mariam Aslamazian, Haroutiun Calentz as well as Gohar Fermanian, Grigor Khanjian and Hagop Hagopian are presented in this genre.
