Armenian Painting Department

 The Gallery is the largest museum in Armenia and the biggest one in the world with regard to its Armenian fine art collection.
The department was established in 1921. First it functioned as a unit within Armenian Fine Art department, then within the Painting department; since 2004 it has been a separate department.
About 7000 exhibits are preserved in the department storages, which include documentary copies of ancient and medieval murals and miniatures, 17th-19th-century church paintings, new and contemporary works.
