Collection Documentation and Conservation Department

The department was set up in 1921 from the very foundation of the museum.
It consists of two sectors: Collection documentation and Conservation.

Collection Documentation Sector executes filling out of all documentation regarding register and storage of museum objects, kept in the NGA. It ensures control over removal of museum items in and outside the museum, carries out check and hallmarking of museum objects made of precious metals. It also controls over the copyright of museum objects. The sector carries out registration and inventory of the museum collection objects.

Collection Conservation Sector carries out displaying, cataloguing, conservation treatment, routine maintenance work of museum objects and look into their safe-keeping in the storage facilities. Sixteen curators contribute to the carrying out all sort of work connected with the conservation of museum objects depending on their type: painting, graphic art, engraving, sculpture, various branches of decorative-applied art (textiles, glassworks, porcelain, ceramics, precious metals, etc.).
